Research at the School of Dentistry

With close collaboration with other schools of Showa University active research envisioning the entire medical field is being conducted.

The School of Dentistry since its foundation in 1977, has been pursuing research in a wide ranging area including basic dental science etiology pathophysiology diagnosis treatment and rehabilitation. For dental research, which aims toward improved quality of life by maintaining the function and structure of human oral organs normal to advance with strategy, collaboration with other fields has become essential, coupled with the recent advances in life sciences. Thus, in the School of Dentistry with close collaboration with the other 3 schools, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Nursing and Rehabilitation Sciences, research with a wide view towards the entire medical field has been aggressively pursued and continues to nurture many researchers who are capable of taking charge in the next era.

Meanwhile, the 'Advanced research for the mechanism and reconstruction of the impairment of oral and maxillofacial functions' at the Graduate School of Dental Sciences was selected to be supported by the "High Tech Research Center" Project for Private Universities; matching fund subsidy from MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). Aggressive introduction of the latest research equipment and environment in School of Dentistry, will be further promoted by taking advantage of this, and by balancing the original research based on flexible inspiration from individuals and systematic research orientated by clear strategies of the School; further improvement in the quality of life based on maintenance of oral and maxillofacial function is targeted.
