OPD_0012rNoboru Yokoyama, M.D., Ph.D.
Director of Showa University Koto Toyosu Hospital
Showa University Koto Toyosu Hospital opened its doors to patients on March 24, 2014.
It is the fourth medical center affiliated to Showa University Hospital for providing acute-phase care, and we are still a relatively new facility. Our institution is located in Toyosu, Koto-ku, and is designated as a regional medical care support hospital whose mission is to closely cooperate with other hospitals in the eastern medical district of Tokyo and adjacent areas. We are also actively providing secondary emergency medical care in the area.

Our institution is operated under the following four principles: (1) provision of compassionate medical care, (2) provision of safe and confidence-inspiring medical care, (3) provision of medical care in close coordination with the local community it serves, and (4) development of medical professionals. Our specific policy is to become a hospital that is equally friendly to female and pediatric patients; practices team-based medicine involving various disciplines; and encourages a novel medical culture.

Toyosu, where our hospital is based, is a constantly developing and changing area. As this part of Tokyo is seeing a sharp increase in the number of young and family residents, including small children, our institution is committed to being equally friendly to female and pediatric patients, and is practicing team-based medicine involving various disciplines so that optimal care can be given to all patients.
In addition, we have set up hotlines not only for digestive diseases but also for circulatory diseases (including ischemic heart disease), cerebrovascular diseases (including stroke), and obstetric cases (perinatal period). We also offer around-the-clock emergency care for pediatric patients, as part of our efforts to provide safe and confidence-inspiring medical care.

The most distinctive feature of our institution is that we are the first-ever university hospital that operates on weekends and holidays the same as on weekdays. Thus, outpatient care, examinations, periodical surgeries and all other normal services are available seven days a week.
By implementing this bold initiative, our institution is determined to improve convenience for patients and provide better support to other medical facilities in the area, thus fostering a novel medical culture.
Furthermore, as we are a university hospital, we have a key duty to develop the next generation of medical professionals. As such, we have doctors and students in training participate, with the consent of patients, in the provision of medical care as needed, including resident doctors and students attending the medical school, dental school, pharmacy school, and nursing school at Showa University, etc.

The hospital is also working with family doctors in the area to establish relationships with them, through which two primary care physicians will be available to each patient.

The entire staff of our hospital are committed to improving as an effective medical center that provides better medical care in the local community.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
