Anesthesiology (Pain Clinic)

At Showa University East Hospital, the Department of Anesthesiology is in charge of perioperative management for patients undergoing general anesthesia as well as the Pain Clinic.
This page introduces the Pain Clinic.
The page on the Department of Anesthesiology, Showa University Hospital explains perioperative management for general anesthesia, and can be found at:

The Pain Clinic is a hospital department which mainly provides diagnosis and treatment of pain. While the acute pain of a trauma disappears when the cause heals, it may turn into chronic pain if neuropathy or some psychosocial element is added. The presence of pain can impair the quality of life, and cause sleep disorders or decrease in social activities. It is therefore important to mitigate the pain as soon as possible. The Pain Clinic uses various methods including nerve block therapy and drug therapy and provides treatments to remove or mitigate harmful pain. We diagnose the cause and select the appropriate treatment method based on our specialized knowledge and techniques. We also treat some diseases that do not involve pain, such as facial paralysis, sudden deafness, peripheral vascular disorder, hyperhidrosis, and facial spasms.

Sleep Medicine Center

Respiratory Care Center

The Respiratory Care Center is a new department at Showa University East Hospital along with the Sleep Medicine Center established in April 2018. This Center mainly treats patients with chronic respiratory tract diseases and pneumonia who have passed the acute phase. We conduct rehabilitation to enable patients to return to social life, and adjustments for chronic management, etc. after they receive acute phase treatment. We also provide intensive rehabilitation and inpatient education for chronic respiratory tract diseases, inpatient education for introduction of home oxygen therapy, etc. Even though our department was established only recently and we have few results, we hope to develop fine-tuned medicine to satisfy modern medical needs.
