Director of SHOWA Medical University Northern Yokohama Hospital
SHOWA Medical University Northern Yokohama Hospital was founded on April 1, 2001 as a core medical facility responsible for providing acute-phase patient care in the northern medical district of Yokohama City. With the center system, where internal medicine and
surgery teams collaborate, we have promptly provided appropriate treatment options according to patients’ conditions since our founding. We have also launched the maternity center and opened new departments: Female Pelvic Health Center, Thyroid Center,
Stroke Center, and Breast Surgery. Our hospital was designated in January 2020 as a Core Hospital for Cancer Genomic Medicine*, following designation as a Regional Cancer Treatment Coordination Hub Hospital by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare,
a Regional Medical Care Support Hospital by the Prefectural Governor Designated as an In-disaster Medical Hub Hospital, a Hospital by the Japan Council for Evaluation of Postgraduate Clinical Training (JCEP), and a Regional Medical Care Support Hospital
by the Prefectural Governor. With the Center for Clinical Genetics and Genomic Medicine also being set up, we are committed to always providing the best medical care.
Based on our original philosophy of practicing “team-based medical care” with the cooperation of patients while respecting their rights and dignity, our hospital is devoted to serving patients sincerely and meeting their high expectations.
Under the concept of “team-based medical care,” patients are always at the center of our focus. Our doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, dieticians, therapists, social workers, clerks, and other medical staff all work closely with each other to provide optimal care to each patient, while other staff at the hospital also work effectively in a coordinated manner. This team-based medical approach is only possible with the cooperation of patients and their families; we sincerely ask for your understanding and support.
During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, all our staff worked hard together to provide treatment to many coronavirus patients with moderate or severe symptoms, including those from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, while continuing to provide care for general patients who needed treatment at our hospital. I feel this experience deepened our ties with medical institutions, mainly the regional medical association, generating enormous power that helps us work as a team to provide medical support to local residents. Our institution is firmly committed to fulfilling its purpose as a designated core hospital in the area while developing good relationships with each and every patient we care for.
Thank you for your constant support for our hospital.
