Research at the School of Dentistry

Conducting active research in close collaboration with the other schools of Showa University that envisions the entire medical field.

Since its foundation in 1977, The School of Dentistry has been pursuing research in a range of areas, including basic dental science, etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. For dental research, which aims toward improved quality of life by maintaining the function and structure of human oral organs, collaboration with other fields – coupled with the recent advances in life sciences – has become essential. Thus, in the School of Dentistry, collaborative research with the other three schools that encompasses a wide view towards the entire medical field has been aggressively pursued and we continue to nurture many researchers who are capable of taking charge in the next era.

Meanwhile, the 'Advanced research for the mechanism and reconstruction of the impairment of oral and maxillofacial functions' at the Graduate School of Dentistry was selected to be supported by the "High Tech Research Center" Project for Private Universities; matching fund subsidy from MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). Introduction of the latest research equipment and facilities in the School of Dentistry will be further promoted by this project, and by balancing original research based on flexible inspiration from individuals and systematic research orientated by clear strategies of the school, further improvement in the quality of life based on maintenance of oral and maxillofacial function is targeted.
